Cameroon OIC Poised For Expansion

Growth is not always good. In our own country, we’re having a public debate about how large banks should get. Some seek to grow their own personal wealth without limits. But in the case of OIC in Cameroon, growth is welcome and wonderful news. We won’t stop until all vulnerable youth have access to training and education.

Since its inception in 1986, Cameroon OIC (COIC) has trained a total of 15,500 youth throughout the country. While 11,000 of those graduates have found jobs in both the private and public sectors, 2,000 have decided to start their own businesses. Of the 13,000 who have successfully found employment, 5,800 are females and 7,200 are males. In a country where nearly a third of the population is unemployed, COIC’s mission to help youth find sustainable employment through vocational training is paramount.

This past June, the Opportunities Industrialization Institute in Buea, the capital of the Southwest Province of Cameroon, held a ceremony to honor the 250 students who had completed 18 months of training with OIC experts. The 19th batch of graduates specialized in the following fields: Auto Mechanics, Electricity, Building Construction, Plumbing, Hotel Management, Information Technology, Metal Fabrication, Welding and Woodwork.

This past February, Cameroon OIC-Buea met with Government officials to discuss plans to expand its current vocational training programs for unemployed youth. With more funds, COIC will be able to add new vocational disciplines such as Textile and Fashion Design, Agriculture, and Weaving and Handicraft, to offer scholarships to some trainees, and to further enhance training opportunities for instructors.

We cannot do our work alone. As we dream about and plan for a Cameroon of the future, we see a strong and vibrant youth, building a country and thriving. We know you can see this too. Please reach out a helping hand and Donate Now. Your donation will go toward increasing OIC’s impact around the world where we are working to ensure that employment is not a privilege for the few, but rather a right for the many.

Thank you,

Crispian Kirk, President and CEO of OIC International
